Welcome, CFR Volunteers!

Community Financial Resources is grateful to the following volunteers who will be donating their time and expertise, as Volunteer Translators. Volunteers will be translating into Spanish CFR materials, financial education curriculum, and participant guides so that CFR materials are accessible to a wide audience.

Angelines

My name is Angelines Guerrero. I was born in Barcelona (Spain), but my family moved to the city of Valencia when I was only a baby, so this is the place where I grew up, I feel more attached to and that I call home. At age 25, after finishing a degree in Travel and Tourism, I decided to move to the UK as I craved a change and I wanted to practice and improve my English, which is something I had always wanted to do. The plan was to be there for a year or two but, almost 14 years later, I’m still here, really enjoying life and trying to fulfill my dreams. I think I always knew I wanted to become a translator, even though I wasn’t always consciously aware of it and, finally, in 2014, I decided to enroll in a Master’s Program in Translation. I graduated in 2018 and I have to admit that it gave me a big sense of accomplishment, as I managed to do it while I was also working full time. The dream these days is to become a Spanish Language Expert specialized in the Nutrition and Wellness industry. I have recently managed to get a few little jobs and create some online presence, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given at Community Financial Resources, as it will allow me to practice my skills on documents of a varied nature and content.

Inmaculada

Hi! I’m Inmaculada but don’t worry, you can call me “Inma” like all my English speaking friends who tell me they just can’t pronounce such a name 😉 I work as a professional translator and I’m a proud partner and Operations Manager at the IEX Educación, a small organization that works tirelessly to promote international education for young Spaniards eager to expand their horizons. I also love spending time reading, traveling, hanging out with family and friends, and volunteering with the youth of my country through my Scouts group. As you can see… I love to keep busy!! I’m looking forward to the opportunity of supporting the Spanish speakers that benefit from the great work you do at CFR.

Maria

Maria Carkovic is a faculty member at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, and the Clausen Center of International Business and Policy, also at UC Berkeley. She was the executive director of the Institute for Business Innovation at the Haas School of Business, and the Clausen Center, from 2012 to 2019. She spearheaded multiple discussions, seminars and conferences on innovation and international economics. Professor Carkovic teaches global macroeconomics to MBA students at Haas. Prior to joining Berkeley, she directed an undergraduate program at Brown University and taught advanced courses in macroeconomics and international trade. Professor Carkovic had a 12-year career at the IMF before reentering academia. Her work at the IMF spanned many policy and geographical areas. She participated in the design, negotiation and evaluation of adjustment programs in countries facing currency crises in Latin America, and over-indebtedness and economic stagnation in Africa. She also worked on advising mature economies in Europe, where problems of heightened capital mobility and fast labor and commodity market integration disturbed business cycles. She has published numerous articles and has taught and designed courses for the IMF. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. She did her undergraduate work in Chile, her native country. Her volunteer activities focus on the Latinex community, including working with asylum seekers, teaching financial literacy and softer skills to incarcerated women, and, since COVID-19 lockdown, also translating for several organizations in the Bay Area and Washington State.
