Community Financial Resources (CFR) welcomes you to our Partner Spotlight series highlighting the amazing work of our partners and the impact they have on their community. Meet this month's spotlight: David & Margaret Youth and Family Services!
David & Margaret Youth and Family Services’ (David & Margaret) recently refined mission is to strengthen and empower children, young adults, and families through innovative and culturally respectful trauma-informed quality treatment, education, and support services to better their lives.
Creating Opportunities and Making Personal Advancements to Self Sufficiency (COMPASS) Programs includes the various programs available at David & Margaret dedicated to increasing resources and opportunities for 16-24 year-olds aging out of foster care who face diverse obstacles as they transition into adulthood through a comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness.
About the Partnership
CFR partners with David & Margaret by providing our Focus Card so youth can receive stipends direct deposit. David & Margaret reports that the partnership with CFR makes it possible for them to provide hands-on money management training. Working with a population with many inherent barriers makes providing life skills training challenging.

Impact
We receive more questions about the possibilities regarding the way to manage money, so that they can try things they have never explored before. They ask questions about how to use etools like the Focus card app, so that they can access their accounts and monitor their spending.

When asked why the economic justice work that CFR does is important to David & Margaret and their program participants, David & Margaret shared:
CFR has a huge impact on the disparity in equity and inclusion for marginalized populations who do not have the same level of access to banking options. Removing barriers caused by a lack of documentation and/or due to poor financial history and instead, allowing providers to vouch for and provide ongoing one on one support to help them get back on their feet, is a huge start to ensuring financial independence.
